Chairman's Christmas & New Year Message 2024

As we draw towards the end of 2024, I wanted to briefly reflect on the immense achievements we’ve made as a club in the last year.

Irrespective of what is going on in the world at the moment, Bowls remains a constant for us at Crowborough Wolfe, and we’re making sure that this continues long into the future for us, and future generations.

We’ve had a terrific season on and off the green, with many notable achievements. For me, the fact that we continue to grow, prosper as a club and provide both competitive and social gatherings for all is probably the most significant thing, when others around are faltering. It’s because we have a club with committed members, “rolling sleeves up” where necessary and getting stuck in to keep the club going that means we will continue to grow, and further develop, offering the wonderful sport for all.

We’ve also introduced the Peter Flint Memorial Umbrella League, won the 2024 Wadhurst Triples Tournament and brough social short mat bowls to CWBC, which has given many a new opportunity to gather during the winter months and enjoy time together. There are many social events planned for next year, and of course, our very own CWBC Mixed Triples Tournament in July 2025.

The building work that we started in September is – with thanks to many of you – incredibly well advanced. We are halfway around the green with the new composite boards, the paving has been relayed, and we have a new wall built. The footings are also dug for the new shed. Whilst some of this may not be obvious to many, we know that this has been done and provides members old and new with the best we can offer. However, more noticeable may be the incredible work that has gone into the gardens, and the new borders / shrubs. I am convinced that many will marvel at the new Rose Garden as you enter the club which is now planted.

I’m also conscious that we have a lot of external visitors to our website – and from many other local clubs – and of course we wish you all the very best for next year and the forthcoming season.

Crowborough Wolfe is a bowls family – supporting each other and ensuring that we get the very best out of each other and the wonderful facilities we have. However, it’s always the case that we inevitably lose members to ill health, and we also remember loved ones who are no longer with us. But I’m a firm believer that they will ALWAYS be with us, watching as we bowl, and enjoying the weather, whatever it brings.

To all of you who have given your time, energy, efforts and enthusiasm, I / we are indebted to you, and I encourage all of us to recognise the wonderful efforts of all concerned when we see them.

And finally, to you all, our families, friends and those we remember, I thank you. We are lucky and fortunate to have each other, and we’ll all be back in 2025 to enjoy another year together.

Simon
