August 30th and 31st saw the 2025 finals weekend superbly well attended in what was a somewhat "weather affected" event. Nevertheless, the finalists put on an impressive show with some superb bowls in front of a packed house of spectators.
Saturday began with the Ladies and Men's Handicap Finals, between Janet Watling and Tina Godden and Cliff Langley and Ian Watling respectively. The crowd were drawn to a compelling ladies final with the match going to the very last wood drawn by Tina on Rink 3, whilst on Rink 1, again the match went all the way with Ian nudging it at the very end. Congratulations to Tina and Ian, and well done to Janet and Cliff.
The Ladies Final was a tense affair between Linda Stevens and Nicky Scales, eventually taking 31 ends before a winner was declared, and a new name on the trophy for 2025. Many congratulations to Linda, our new 2025 Ladies Champion, and well done to Nicky who has held the title since 2021.

In a rather damp and soggy end of the afternoon, Ray Fuller won the Mixed 2 Wood Yardstick, with Simon Scales as runner up. Congratulations to Ray.
A much brighter Sunday saw the Ladies and Men's 100 Up contested on Rink 3 between Janet Watling and Jane Bickford, and on Rink 1 between Ian Watling and Simon Scales. Both were well contested finals, with congratulations to Janet and Simon, and well done to Jane and Ian.
The Men's Final was another tense affair between John Eyles and David Boobier, knowing that a new name would be on the trophy for 2025. Millimetre decisions on a number of ends saw a closely fought context, with David eventually lifting the trophy. Many congratulations to David, our new 2025 Men's Champion, and well done to John, who contested his second final in consecutive years.

The Married Pairs final was between Janet & Ian Watling and Nicky & Simon Scales. In front of many who remained to watch the last final of the weekend, the sun shone and congratulations to the eventual winners Nicky & Simon, and well done to Janet & Ian.
The remaining finals will be played in September, and are :
Mixed 2 Woods - Simon Scales vs David Boobier
Mixed Over 65’s - David Boobier vs Andy Bickford
Mixed 7’s - Nicky Scales vs Simon Scales
Mixed Drawn Pairs - Bill Gibb & Simon Scales vs John Beasley & John Eyles
